A 20 minutes video called "Connected, but Alone?" by sherry Turkle describes the impact technology in today society. As I listen to her, I recalled my own experience with technology and how it impacted me. Technology claims to help people connect with each other in a easier manner. However, if use incorrectly, it can turn against you. It can distance your relationship with people and disconnect from the world. Texting can not compare to having a conversation. Face to face conversation is much more genuine and you are closer to them. You can not send emotion via texing. Texting when using too much is a harm, it hurt your communication skill. Turkle said " texting or using a device filled the void of you being alone" , once I heard this, I remembered just the other day that I instantly reach for my phone at the bus station when I was alone because I did not want to have that "Alone" feeling. This do need to change, you have to take advantage of this technology, not letting it control you.

Hey Chance, I recalled some of my own experiences that are similar to yours when I thought about the impact of technology. As explained in the video, "Connected but Alone?" by Sherry Turkle, having a conversation is way different from texting because it happens in real time. When I heard her say that, I was captivated by the truth behind it. Using technology does indeed fill the void of loneliness and I think everyone can agree to having that moment where they reach for their phone in attempts to not feel lonely.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, you cant send emotions through a text message and I think thats the reason they invented emojis but in reality an emoji can't really explain your feelings completely!
ReplyDeleteI agree whenever I am alone I look at my phone a lot.
